Installing Wooden Blinds   – Tips on how to make it easier

Home projects can be quite complicated, especially when they involve cutting and measuring. In this article we are going talk about installing wooden blinds. But before we begin the rather monotonous step-by-step guide, we are going to review the many benefits of installing Blinds to Go.

One thing most homeowners do not know about window treatments is that they can actually increase energy efficiency and lower monthly bills. In fact, the experts tell us that about fifty percent of home heat is lost through the windows. We also know that a window that is left uncovered by a shade, curtain or blind lets in about twenty times more heat. Of course, these windows must be properly measured and fitted to provide significant cost savings.

Why wooden venetian blinds? While it is true that heavy curtains will and do provide adequate insulation, most energy experts tell us that wood is the best natural insulator you can find. By no means should you install cheap mini or Venetian blinds that provide minimal insulation and are little more than a temporary solution.

When it comes to a permanent fix the only real options are heavy curtains and wooden blinds. In the end, the choice of wood is based primarily on the fact that it is a better natural insulator and that it is more aesthetically appealing. This, of course, is a personal preference. But we can also say, without reservation, that wooden blinds are far easier to use and do not require daily adjustments.

Now, we will move on to the actual installation. Wooden blinds ( Houten Jaloezieen )  are often quite simple to install as they typically come complete with their own instructions. But for the sake of this discussion, we will give a brief overview of the standard installation process.

Step one is attaching the brackets to the inside of the window or the wall. The brackets will be labelled “right” and “left” and they must be screwed into the inside of the window frame or the wall. The bracket generally looks like a square with an open top and the open top will always face you when it is screwed into place.

Next you will place the wooden blinds rod in the opening of the end brackets. The blinds should slide into place quite easily and the brackets should have no difficulty supporting their weight. Lastly, you must install the valance that covers the brackets and will make the blinds look neat and uniform. That’s all there is to it!
